Saturn in Aries...Is it All That Scary? (Perhaps)
Part 1 of our Saturn + Saturn in Aries discussion. Let's get to the bottom of Saturn and what he represents in Astrology.
What’s poppin? It’s your girl Christydabull, your local Taurus coming with another post for the girls who are strict as hell. If you’re new to my content, take some time to read through my work and heavily consider following (or subscribing) to my Substack for more Astrology content. Without further ado, let’s jump into the post now, shall we?
Saturn, the worrisome planet that causes our bones to ache and our minds to worry too much…He is the cold and dry planet that I decided to talk about for the next few posts. Don’t worry, I’ll eventually get to Miss Moon, but just like the Moon, I get distracted.
Saturday, May 24 at 11:39pm, Saturn made its first transition into Aries. Yes, this is not the only time Saturn will move into Aries. In September, Saturn will return to Pisces during its retrograde (a planet appearing to move backwards). Finally, in February, Saturn will remain in Aries until it’s time for its transition to Taurus.
In this first part, I will give you the significations of both Saturn and Aries to break down what this transit may deliver to us collectively and individually. There are a few topics I want to cover when discussing Saturn, so this will be a two part post, detailing some questions people have asked regarding Saturn. Hopefully, I will clear up some confusion regarding this planet and how you should view it.

Vettius Valens is an ancient astrologer. He has a book called Vettius Valens Anthologies. He is highly regarded in Hellenistic astrology spaces, so I felt that it was necessary to source him for significations. Warning: do not get mad at me, nor assume that if you’re a Saturn heavy person that you are ONLY exhibiting these significations. Ancient Astrologers are cut throat with their significations….I would know as my feelings were hurt on more than one occasion.
From a traditional standpoint, Saturn does not represent anything that is necessarily good. The best way for me to explain this is to give you a difference of modern vs traditional astrological perspectives.
Modern Astrology will tell you that Saturn is the planet of karma. What you give to the universe, you will receive back. If you work hard enough, you will eventually be rewarded for your efforts.
Traditional Astrology will tell you that Saturn doesn’t represent good, nor does it give hope. Saturn represents those feelings of misery and imprisonment, literally or mentally.
I personally don’t think either of these perspectives are wrong. It’s a perception thing. Are you going to work through those feelings Saturn instills? Well you may end up taking the modern route. If you are very specific about significations, and what representation goes to what planet, then you may be more of the traditional view. I utilize both because I am a genius.
Take a moment to think about a time where you were at your lowest. That feeling was most likely Saturn in action. Isolating yourself voluntarily or involuntarily is saturn. Saturn is associated with hospitals and mental institutions, hell even solitary confinement in prison is Saturn in action.
Saturn represents those feelings of dread. “Misery loves company” and the whole time Saturn is misery and you are its company. Do you ever lay in your bed depressed and your friends keep texting you, but you ignore them all because the depression is laying you down that hard? Yeah, that’s Saturn too. For this reason, I do believe awareness is key. Once you know certain marks of your life is Saturn in action, you then have the awareness to navigate through it.
Aries is the domicile of Mars and exaltation of the Sun, which informs us of a few things. Aries is honorable and will defend their honor at all costs. Aries is creative, able to put their ideas into action. Aries is self focused and determined to commit to their actions. Mars as a planet, represents those feelings of annoyance, which tends to come about quickly. Impulsivity is associated with Mars, as when we are irked, we forget logic.
Saturn as a planet is cold and dry, while Aries as a sign is the start of spring, a hot and moist season. Spring sets the conditions for things to grow and flourish, as it is the initiative to change. However, Saturn being dry and cold, entering a place (Aries) where it’s hot, causes an issue. Saturn does not like to be in the sign/place of Aries.
Saturn falls in Aries, meaning it’s uncomfortable where it is at. A planet in bad condition is going to cause an excess of that planet’s energy due to the hostile conditions the planet is in. It brings out the overcompensation of the planet, instead of cowering away in fear…Saturn in Aries gives me the idea that there will almost be this excessive urge to assert self as a means of protection. Saturn in Aries reminds me of a person who takes themselves a bit too seriously, which i cannot blame, as if it is your Saturn return right now, you may have to get a grip.
This energy however, can cause people to doubt themselves. There are potential roles or positions that people have a thirst for, but Saturn will cause doubt and discouragement. It doesn’t mean that the Saturn in Aries person won’t attempt to try, but it may be output the wrong way. It may cause more delays than expected, forcing the native to face more obstacles than intended. The need to prove themselves overtakes rational at times. It’s never the fact that they’re committed, rather the fact of what they have to go through to get the fruits of their commitments.
We got the “easy” part out of the way! Next time, I’m going to break down Saturn a bit more, to help you gain more understanding of his functions + we will go over Saturn in Aries through the houses. Until next time, it’s your girl Christy signing out. Mwah.
